You've got your degree and now you want to become an architect or urban planner? Register as a junior member and you're off and running. After two years you will be entitled to use the protected professional title of architect, interior designer, landscape architect or urban planner. More information can be found in the AiP/SiP-Guidelines.
We ask for your understanding that we only provide this information in German and not the application procedure. Architects and urban planners must be fluent in German in their respective fields, also when dealing with authorities. This is a prerequisite for registration and will be checked during the registration process.
Congratulations! Now that you have successfully completed your AiP/SiP, you can register as an architect, interior designer, landscape designer or town planner. Find out more about the application process here.
Apply for registration as an AiP/SiP as soon as you graduate and start your professional career. Only then can we take your professional experience into account from day one.
Junior membership allows you to benefit from the services of the Kammer even if you have not yet completed your training as an architect or urban planner.
Many benefits of the membership at a glance. Just for a fee of € 60 a year.
Submit your application as soon as you start your professional activity, because your practical experience can only be counted if you are registered. Complete the AiP/SiP membership application form (Antrag auf Mitgliedschaft als AiP/SiP; German only), sign it, and post it to the Architektenkammer. Once your documents have been checked and you meet the registration requirements, you're ready to go! Make sure the documents are complete:
Your practice phase begins with your registration. Over a period of two years, you should spend at least three months working in each of the professional areas of your main field of study. You can use the HOAI Leistungsphasen as a rough guide. A registered architect or urban planner must supervise you and sign your evidence of activity. Make sure it is detailed. We need to see how long you worked on each project and what your independent tasks were. This is the only way we can assess whether you have carried out all the professional tasks during your internship. This is required by the Architektengesetz (Architects Act).
If you change employers during your AiP/SiP, fill in a first activity report and have it signed by your previous employer.
After two years as an AiP/SiP, you must be able to prove that you have completed 40 hours of professional further training. Valid courses are recognised by the Architektenkammer. You can find out whether and how many points get for the course. We recommend visiting professional courses designed for AiP/SiP from our institute IFBau. If your AiP/SiP is extended, for example because you work part-time, eight additional hours of professional education are required for each additional year of AiP/SiP. More information can be found in the Praxishinweis zur Fort- und Weiterbildungsordnung (Practical Information on Professional Training Regulations - German only).
